Tasting Notes:
Nose - The classic Pinot aromas leave no doubt you're about to enjoy a nice glass of wine - deep cherry and strawberry sit atop hints of smokey oak.
Palate - Delivering on the promise made by the nose, this is a wine that drinks well now and will evolve for some time to come. A middle-weight pinot that belies its warm zone origins. This wine balances nicely between a fine cocktail wine and a fine dining wine, maintaining a foot in both camps. Only 360 cases produced!
Food Pairings - There are very few foods Pinot Noir does not complement. And in sipping this wine you would never guess it holds 14.2% alcohol - it carries its weight well. Still, I would suggest matching this medium-bodied wine with slightly bolder faire - salmon with soy and ginger, perhaps, or anything smoked, grilled or charred.
The Winemaker
I feel a certain kinship for successful business people who decide to abandon a comfortable money stream in favor of creating a living from their field of passion. Pioneering people. People such as Jeff and Genni White at Ovene Winery.
Jeff began his career as a wine salesman in the early 80's and caught the bug, so to speak. He began making wine at home, eventually outgrowing his home production space and the labor provided by friends, family and strangers off the street.
By the late 90's, Jeff moved into his first leased space, and then outgrew that as he reached commercial status in 2004. Production during their first year was an ambitious 2000 cases, and production from the 2005 vintage was more than double that. We are pleased to welcome the Whites into our family of great small producers.

Core Wines - 2005 Hard Core -- In this wine, Dave Corey blends the Mourvedre and Grencahe grapes of the Rhone Valley with Cabernet Sauvignon. A "Super Rhone", if you will.
Costa De Oro - 2004 Chardonnay, Reserva Dorada -- Very Limited!! Extended aging prior to release and generous malo-lactic fermentation results in a big white wine that is well integrated.
Costa De Oro - 2005 Estate Chardonnay -- Very Limited!! A great bargain for a Chardonnay of this breeding. Leans toward the bigger style, but with enough crispness to avoid being cloying.
