Purchase Buttonwood - 2000 Trevin, A Bordeaux Blend

Buttonwood - 2000 Trevin, A Bordeaux Blend A blend of the three primary Bordeaux varietals - Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. This is the classic example of the blenders art, in which the result is greater than the whole of its parts.

Tasting Synopsis:

  1. Nose: Dark fruit predominates a pleasant tobacco/cigar box spice note.
  2. Palate: Black cherry and cedar on the front palate, with a warm mid-palate reminiscent of freshly-turned earth on a warm day. Solid tannins. Will continue to improve for a number of years, but is ready to reward those born with no ability to delay gratification, or insufficient storage space!

I always enjoy visiting Buttonwood. Beautiful grounds, knowledgeable staff, great art... And how can you not love a tasting room that plays LP's on an actual turntable??

But what I enjoy most is their wines. Elegant. Old-world. In a day when more and more wineries are following the well-worn path of sameness, Buttonwood maintains an independent aesthetic much needed in today's Mondo Vino. Let's raise our glass in a not-so-quiet toast to those brave enough to cut their own swath.

Production: Just 636 cases bottled.

Food Pairing Suggestions:
Richly flavored and full-bodied, Trevin is a wine of classic dimension deserving to be paired with a dish of equally classic status. Suggestions include a beef dish like prime rib or filet of beef or the Buttonwood Farms suggestion - coffee-crusted New York roast with horseradish mashed-potatoes drizzled with cabernet reduction sauce.

  • Clos Mimi, 2005 Syrah, Petite Rousse -- Blindfold me and I'll identify this wine as old-world. From somewhere in the South of France. Complex, country air, ripe blue fruits with hints of pepper and smoked meat and smoldering vineyard clippings and... I could go on and on.

  • Core Wines - 2005 "Core Red" -- Like a taste of Southern France, this is a big wine for those who love a wine with backbone. Now available by the half-bottle!

  • Core Wines - 2005 Hard Core -- In this wine, Dave Corey blends the Mourvedre and Grencahe grapes of the Rhone Valley with Cabernet Sauvignon. A "Super Rhone", if you will.
