Bricco Buon Natale, 2000 Nebbiolo-Barbera

$17.00 -- 2008-06 Jack's Club Selection

Purchase Bricco Buon Natale, 2000 Nebbiolo-Barbera

Affectionately known as “Neb-Bar”, this unique wine is crafted in the old-world style - taste it blindfolded next to its cousins - the Italian imports that inspired it - and you'll be hard pressed to pick out the domestic version.

It’s rare that we can find a wine of this quality at this price point. Its impressive age-ability isn’t surprising once one considers the aging characteristics of wines from the Nebbiolo grape (Barolo, Barbaresco, et al), some of Italy’s longest-lived wines.

Nebbiolo-based wines are characterized by a perfume of tar and roses and red fruit, and they deliver much the same experience in the mouth. Combining this noble grape with Barbera was a genius stroke as it creates a wine with more juicy liveliness and complexity that includes leather saddle aromas and dark berry fruits and perhaps a bit of citrus peel. Look for pleasant oak spice notes on the finish.

This is most definitely a food wine. Its acidic structure suggests pairing with tomato dishes – try it with fusilli and grilled sausage in a tomato Ragu.

Cheers!
